(Vatican Radio) Health authorities are reporting that an outbreak of Marburg virus
in Uganda has turned deadly, killing at least five people. Marburg virus causes high
fever, diarrhoea, weakness and bleeding. It is highly infectious and can often be
fatal. The Marburg outbreak in Uganda comes just after the World Health Organization
had just declared a separate outbreak of Ebola in Uganda is under control. Health
authorities in neighbouring Rwanda are also on high alert. They are asking citizens
immediately to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility in case of suspicion
of Marburg haemorrhagic fever. Listen to our report:
