October 22, 2012 - The 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on
the New Evangelization continued in the Vatican on Monday with the entire day dedicated
to summarizing the proposals made by the synod fathers. This task was handled by
the Relator General, American Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishp of Washington, the
Special Secretary, French Archbishop Pierre-Marie Carrè of Montpellier, and the Relators
of small groups. These proposals will be voted upon and presented to the Pope at
the synod’s end. Since most of the synod participants were free, the South Korean
Embassy to the Holy See invited them to the screening in the evening of the film entitled,
"John and Rugalda, two virgin spouses", a pair of Korean martyrs who both suffered
martyrdom in the early 1800s. The Synod of Bishops, on the theme, “New Evangelization
for the Transmission of the Christian Faith,” began on October 7 and will conclude
on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, the synod fathers had their first voting for
the the election of 12 members of the XIII Ordinary Council of the General Secretariat
of the Synod of Bishops. Besides, there was the presentation of the draft of the
synod’s final message, on which they also held discussions. Later the synod fathers
attended the 2012 Ratzinger Prize ceremony, where Pope Benedict honoured the French
philosopher and historian, Rémi Brague and United States theologian Brian Daley.
