U.S. Archbishop: Our religious belief is not private, it's public
(Vatican Radio) The Archbishop of Louisville in the U.S., Joseph Kurtz, says there's
a world that is tempted to turn in on itself but instead we need to share our faith
and be "both joyful and bold"about it. Archbishop Kurtz is among those attending
the ongoing Synod Bishops for new evangelisation and spoke to Vatican Radio's Susy
Hodges:
Listen to the extended interview with Archbishop Joseph Kurtz:
Archbishop
Kurtz says new evangelisation requires our "own inner conversion" and is all about
sharing our faith with others. "Our religious belief is personal but it's not private,
it's public. " At the same time, the U.S. archbishop stresses that this does not mean
that we should "impose our faith on other people." The key, he says, "is to propose
things in a way that is inviting.... "and be both joyful and bold about it."
Archbishop
Kurtz says more than a new program, new evangelisation is "a new spirit, a new ardour
or enthusiasm" in sharing the good news. People, he says, "also need to be equipped"
with the right language and knowledge to carry out the new evangelisation effectively.
