Theologians meet to Discuss a Theological Response to Corruption in Public Life
October 18, 2012: The 35th annual meeting of the Indian Theological Association (ITA)
would begin on Friday. “Nearly 100 theologians are expected to take part in the event,”
Fr. Antony Kalliath, ITA president, told UCAN news agency. The five-day meeting at
the Holy Trinity Seminary in Jalandhar, Punjab, would address the theme “Corruption
in Public Life.: A Theological Response.” Fr. Kalliath said that the participants
would give paper presentations from the biblical, cultural and theological point of
view on the topic.
They would also take part in group discussions and workshops
during these five days. “They would make a theological statement to facilitate the
ongoing contextual theological discourse in the Church in India as well as the world,”
the priest added.
The ITA was founded in 1976 in Hyderabad. It is a platform
of more than 150 Indian theologians belonging to the Catholic Church. The members
meet every year to discuss and debate on pertinent issues of the Church, religion,
culture and society.
