Pakistani Bishop: All people have a right to education
(Vatican Radio) The Apostolic Administrator of the archdiocese of Lahore in Pakistan,
Bishop Sebastian Shaw said he was very saddened by the shooting of a 14 year old Pakistani
girl by Taliban militants because of her campaign for girls' education. Bishop Shaw
is among those attending the ongoing Synod of Bishops for new evangelisation and spoke
to Vatican Radio's Susy Hodges:

Asked for
his reaction to the recent shooting of the Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai who
was left critically wounded as a result of the attack, Bishop Shaw said "all people
have right to an education" and that Malala was "a good example" because of her campaign.
"We support her," he said, "and her mission will continue."
Speaking about
the theme of new evangelisation, Bishop Shaw said it is "helping us to implement the
spirit of the Second Vatican Council more effectively" and said some of the key issues
raised at the Synod in this regard include the question of "the formation" of the
clergy and the laity. "We also talked a lot about families," he added "and how we
can reach (out to) them."
Bishop Shaw went on to talk about the gap between
young people..and the Church saying: "we need to find a methodology to bridge that
gap" and reach these people.
