(Vatican Radio) The Mexican Navy says its Marines have shot dead the Supreme Commander
of the Zetas, Mexico's most fearsome and violent drug cartel. Nicknamed “the Executioner”,
Heriberto Lazcano took over command of the Zetas in 2004. They're US trained Mexican
special forces, who deserted the Army to become hit men and bodyguards for the Gulf
drug cartel. But then they broke away to start a turf war against their former bosses.
A Navy Spokesman said 37 year old Lazcano was one of seven gunmen shot dead on the
Sabinas to Progresso Highway in the Border State of Coahuila, skirting Texas. The
US Government has offered a five million dollar reward for him. While the Mexican
Government had separately offered a reward which is the equivalent of two million
dollars. Forensic tests are being done to confirm his identity. Listen to this
