New Evangelization key theme at Canadian Bishops' Plenary Assembly

(Vatican Radio) The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops are currently holding their annual Plenary Assembly in Quebec. The gathering is being chaired by Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, who was elected CCCB President for a two-year term in 2011. The meeting brings together around 80 Bishops who are focusing on a number of key themes including the Year of Faith and the New Evangelization as well as the family and the impact of the economic crisis.

“This is a pre-Synodal Assembly so one of the issues obviously is the coming synod on the New Evangelization… so our discussions are very much shaped by the theme of the New Evangelization”, says Archbishop Paul-André Durocher, Vice President of the CCCB.

He also told Lydia O’Kane that for the Bishops, the family is an important topic to be addressed.

“The whole structure of the family, (in Canada) you could say, is in a flux right now, so that is a particular concern to us.”

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops Plenary Assembly runs until September 28th. Listen to Lydia O’Kane’s interview with Archbishop Paul-André Durocher RealAudioMP3
