(September 22, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI has a busy schedule in the coming two months
that include a synod, the opening of the Year of Faith and a canonization ceremony.
The Office of Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff on Friday released the
calendar of the papal celebrations for October and November. On October 7 the Pope
will celebrate a Mass in St. Peter's Square to inaugurate the 13th Ordinary General
Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. He will also proclaim St. John of Avila and St.
Hildegard of Bingen as Doctors of the Universal Church. Four days later, on October
11, he will lead another Mass in St. Peter’s Square to launch the Year of Faith.
On Mission Sunday, October 21, he will declare four women and three men saints at
a Mass in St. Peter’s Square. On October 28 the Holy Father will bring to a conclusion
the Synod of Bishops with a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. On November 2, the Pope
will observe All Souls Day, with prayers for his predecessors at the Vatican Grottoes.
The following day he will lead a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for cardinals and bishops
who died during the course of the year.
