An expert and three auditors from India for Synod of Bishops
(September 22, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI has approved the appointment of 94 experts
and auditors from around the world for the 13th Ordinary General Assembly
of the Synod of Bishops, scheduled to take place in the Vatican from October 7 to
28, on the theme “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith.”
Of the 45 experts and 49 auditors nominated on Saturday by Archbishop Nikola Eterović,
the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, four are from India – an expert and
three auditors. Fr. Thomas Manjaly of Shillong Archdiocese, has been appointed an
expert. He is professor of Sacred Scripture at the “Oriens Theological College" and
at the "Inter-Diocesan Theologate for North East of India,” also in Shillong. Among
the auditors are: Religious of Assumption nun, Sr. Rekha (Mary Joseph) Chennattu,
Professor of the New Testament at the Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion
in Pune; Sr. Mary Prema Pierick, M.C., Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity
of Mother Teresa of Kolkata; and layman, Mr. Manoj Sunny, director and journalist
and a founding member of the "Jesus Youth" movement. Besides the four from India,
there are 9 Asians to the Synod. From the Philippines there is an expert and an auditor.
Syria has two auditors. China (Hong Kong), the Palestinian Territories, and Lebanon
have an expert each, and Japan and South Korea have an auditor each.
