Sant'Egidio: European youth meet for world without violence
(Vatican Radio) The III international gathering of European youth for a world without
violence is underway in the Polish city of Krakow. Under the sponsorship of the Sant’Egidio
community, participants from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine,
Russia and Italy are meeting from the 20th to the 23rd of September
to hear testimony from people who were victims of violent hatred. At the centre of
the meeting is the programme for Friday, Sept. 21st, which sees the participants
visiting the Auschwitz museum and holding a silent march to the Auschwitz-Birkenau
extermination camp. The pastor of Rome’s parish of Santa Maria in Trastevere and a
Delegate of the Rome Vicariate for Ecumenism, Fr. Marco Gnavi is taking part in the
meeting. He told Vatican Radio about purpose of the meeting. “A world without violence:
this is the meaning and the goal of this international meeting of young Europeans,”
he said. Fr. Gnavi went on to say, “The meeting [is] a chance for everybody to reflect
on the pain and the wounds in humanity and the story of Europe – but with the trust
that, together, we can build up a new world.” Listen:
