Protesters angered by a film mocking Islam have attacked the German and British embassies
in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, with a spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirming
that Sudanese police were at the scene. Demonstrators started fires and tore down
the German flag, raising an Islamist banner in its place.
In the Lebanese
city of Tripoli, one person was killed as demonstrators set fire to an American owned
fast-food restaurant.
There are also clashes in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
In
Cairo, police firing tear gas pushed about 500 protesters back from the US embassy.
Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Mursi has called for protests to remain peaceful.
The streets around the US embassy in Cairo have been blocked with barbed wire, concrete
and police vehicles.
Meanwhile, Libyan officials have arrested four people
in connection with this week's assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed
U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three of his staff.
