Pope Benedict condoles the death of Ghanaian President
July 28, 2012: Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday condoled the untimely death of John
Evans Atta Mills, President of Ghana. Recalling his years of public service and his
dedication to democratic principles, the Pontiff said that he joins the bereaved family,
and all the people of Ghana in mourning of his passing away. In his condolence
message addressed to the new president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, Pope Benedict
entrusted the late President’s soul to the providence of Almighty God, and prayed
that Ghana will be blessed with peace and prosperity as the new president begins his
service in the sad circumstances.
