Young Indian religious form ‘parliament’ to revolutionize consecrated
(July 13, 2012) The first national convention of the young religious of India ended
with the formation of what they regard as a “parliament” to revolutionize consecrated
life for 2020. The parliament of over 200 consecrated persons would mobilize young
men and women in their regions and prepare them to meet the challenges of the modern
world. “These young religious will discuss and interact with each other about the
issues affecting the consecrated life and their mission to the society,” Brother Mani
Mekkunnel, the national secretary of the Conference of Religious India (CRI) said
on Thursday. He said “the convention was part of a national strategy for change and
it is a unique movement being initiated for the whole country in terms of consecrated
life.” CRI organized the July 9-12 convention at the Don Bosco Technical Institute
in New Delhi, on the theme “Leadership for Consecrated Life 2020”. The meeting concluded
similar conventions CRI organized at its 12 regions across the country during the
past two years to prepare future leaders to face the challenges of the modern world.
For this, participants finalized 12 goals, including good governance, making use of
media in their day-to-day life to communicate with people, learn modern technology
and partnership and networking for evangelical effectiveness. The participants were
in the age group of 30-35 years from more than 100 congregations.
