on Trishna, Michael Winterbottom’s latest release in which he returns to Thomas Hardy
for his source material.

Bordoni, Trishna is a new adaptation of Tess of the d’Urbervilles, he has placed
it in a contemporary setting and removed it to the exotic location of India.
As
Peter points out, the film is beautifully shot in lush, vibrant colours. Its location
is far from the English countryside of the novel, but the spirit of the work remains:
Hardy’s preoccupations with class, power and gender struggles resonate throughout
the film…
