Intertnational Congress of Jesuit liturgists in Slovakia.
(June 27, 2012) More than 50 Jesuit liturgists from all over the world are currently
attending the Congress of the International Jungmann Society for Jesuits and Liturgy
in Nitra, Slovakia. The June 25 to 30 Congress is focused on “Ministries of the
Word: Jesuits and Liturgical Preaching”. The keynote address “Kenosis of the Word
and Preaching as a Vulnerable Act“ was presented by the President of the Jungmann
Society - Jesuit Fr. Paul Janowiak, a Professor at Berkeley University, US. Plenary
addresses on theological, biblical, spiritual and historical aspects are being presented
by Jesuits from various countries. There are 8 participants from Asia, 18 from USA/Canada,
14 from Europe, 7 from Latin America , 2 from Oceania, and 7 from Africa. The event
is coordinated by Jesuit Fr. Vlastimil Dufka from Trnava University, Slovakia. The
Jungmann Society is an international professional association of Jesuits with academic
training and expertise in liturgy and its allied arts. It has been founded as a response
of the Society of Jesus to the Church’s urgent call for a new evangelization of the
world’s many different cultures through worship, scholarship and dialogue. It’s goal
is to promote the renewal of the Church’s liturgical life, as a central dimension
of the Church’s mission to preach the gospel effectively in today’s world.
