Pope appoints two Asian prelates – members of Vatican dicasteries.


(June 13, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday appointed two South Asian prelates as members of important Vatican departments. Indian Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay and President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India – CBCI, was appointed a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education. Among the nine appointments of this congregation is also Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila in the Philippines. The other South Asian is Sri Lankan priest - Fr. Indunil Janakaratne Kodithuwakku, who the Pope appointed Under-Secretary to Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Inter- Religious dialogue. The priest of the Badulla diocese is a professor of missiology at Rome’s Pontifical Urban University.
