(June 04, 2012) Fr. Joseph Chinnayayan, a priest of Trivandrum Latin archdiocese,
has become the new deputy secretary general of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of
India, the apex body of the Catholic Church in India. The former vicar of the Palayam
St Joseph Metropolitan Cathedral Church in Thiruvananthapuram took charge at a function
in the CBCI headquarters New Delhi on Friday. He succeeded Fr. Thomas d’Aquino Sequeira,
a priest from Goa archdiocese, who held the post for the past six years. Archbishop
Vincent Concessao of Delhi, who was present at the function, said various jobs in
the Church are opportunities to serve others. Fr Chinnayayan, a doctor in canon law,
thanked the CBCI officials for their confidence in him.
