May 29, 2012: Catholic leaders from some of the world’s worst conflict zones met
in the Vatican on Tuesday for a two day conference on the theme ‘New Challenges for
Catholic Peace building’. The conference focused on the challenges of peace and reconciliation
work. Participants from countries around the world shared best practices and experiences
of preventing conflict or promoting reconciliation between warring groups.
The
meeting was organised by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, together with
Caritas Internationalis, the Catholic Peace-building Network and other organisations,
to mark the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s landmark encyclical Pacem
in terris.
