May 12, 2012: A 13-year-old British teenager has given a new lease of life to eight
people by donating her organs following her death, reported UCANews on Saturday. Jemima
Layzell, who died due to a brain haemorrhage, gave her organs to five children and
three adults.
The little budding author collapsed at her home in Somerset while
preparing for the celebrations of her mother's birthday. Her eye tissues have helped
restore vision of two people. Another two adults aged 19 and 24 received her kidneys
and a 40-year-old man has now her pancreas.
Her father Harvy said his daughter
has left behind a lasting legacy and example and she had spoken of her wish to be
an organ donor when she died. “It is so sad and we all miss her terribly," he said.
The
girl has left behind many poems, songs, stories and also serious thoughts about her
life and the world's problems and delights. Her parents describe Jemima as a clever,
funny, compassionate and creative girl who thought about and discussed death.
