The U.S. government has confirmed it broke up an Al Qaeda plot to blow up an airliner.
United States agents broke up the plot in Yemen and recovered a device similar to
the underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jetliner over Detroit on Christmas
2009. The bomb device did not contain metal, meaning it probably could have passed
through an airport metal detector. The U.S. Justice Department says, no one was ever
at risk, as plane tickets were never purchased, and the device is now being examined
by the CIA.
