Kofi Annan says violence in Syria unacceptable

Kofi Annan, the UN and Arab League's Special Envoy on Syria, has reportedly told the Security Council that violence in the country remains at "unacceptable" levels. At a closed-door briefing for Security Council ambassadors, he's reported to have described reports of government troops firing on protesters in Hama as "reprehensible and unacceptable".
He's pushing for an early deployment of an additional 300 UN observers to monitor Syria's fragile ceasefire.
Currently, there are only 11 observers in Syria, and Mr. Annan's spokesman, Ahmed Fawzi, says Syrian claims to be honoring the peace plan are contradicted by facts on-the-ground. Listen RealAudioMP3
