(April 14.2012) Christians face a challenge to examine their consciences regarding
their way of life and their credibility in the world of today, says Archbishop Rino
Fisichella, prefect of the Vatican’s Pontifical council for the New Evangelisation.
He was speaking at a press conference Friday on the occasion of the 40th
anniversary of the Renewal in the Spirit group. The Archbishop praised the inititative
of the Renewal movement that was planning to celebrate the past decades of the movement
with a series of initiatives. The new evangelisation is the very mission which Jesus
has entrusted to his Church. Christians cannot afford to lived closed up in their
churches, but must fearlessly throw the doors wide open. Christians are invited to
go out onto the open squares and use them as platforms to proclaim the message of
the gospel. 12 European cities have taken up the challenge successfully and ten dioceses
are following up the initiative of putting the teaching of the commandments on the
map. This is an opportunity to manifest publicly the beauty of our faith concluded
