(March 31.2012) Before the news we bring you the Pope’s General Prayer Intention
for the month of April That many young people may hear the call of Christ and follow
him in the priesthood and religious life. During the Second Vatican Council, Pope
Paul VIth initiated the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, to be celebrated annually
on the 4th Sunday of Easter, known as “Good Shepherd” Sunday. This year
we are celebrating the 49th such day on April 29th. Our prayers
are needed because the world makes it difficult for young people to hear God’s call.
We intervene with prayer, recalling the reminder of Pope Benedict, in his message
on last year’s World Vocation Day, namely that Jesus before calling the 12 Apostles,
“spent the night alone in prayers, listening to the will of the Father.” By prayer
we can create communities which help young people hear God’s call. May our prayer
this month and our daily offering create families and communities that nurture vocations
to the priesthood and religious life
