The Cuban government has launched an official website in preparation for Pope Benedict
XVI’s visit to the Caribbean nation, March 26 to 28. Besides the official programme
of the visit, the website is hosting articles on current and relevant data for the
Catholic world, such as the biography of the priest, Felix Varela and a video on Vatican
City. Visitors can also download videos on the historic visit of the previous Pope,
Blessed John Paul II in 1998. That visit marked a new beginning in relations between
the Church and the state after decades of estrangement. The official Cuban newspaper
'Granma' say relations with the Vatican are now 'excellent'. As evidence of the change
of attitude, the Archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Ortega, appeared on the state
television on March, to talk about the Holy Father's pastoral visit. Granma has also
published an editorial that welcomes Benedict XVI during his upcoming visit. The
Pope will fly to Cuba after visiting Mexico, March 23 to 26. Cuba’s website for the
