Nuncio says upcoming papal visit shows love and care for Cuba
(February 25, 2012 The Apostolic Nuncio to Cuba has said that the charity and care
shown by the Pontiffs for Cuba are what bind Blessed John Paul’s 1998 visit to the
upcoming visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the Caribbean nation. Apostolic nuncio Archbishop
Bruno Musarò made the observation to the SIR news agency of the Italian bishops’ conference.
He said that Pope Benedict’s March 26-28 visit is short and packed, but as in all
apostolic journeys, he is coming to visit the pilgrim Church in Cuba, he comes to
confirm his Cuban brothers in faith. He lamented that Cuba’s economic reforms catch
media attention, “while the most important changes which nobody talks about take place
in the hearts and minds of those people who welcomed John Paul II’s message.” “ Basically,
this is about hoping in the future of the island, the joy of knowing one is loved
and respected, thus starting a path of reconciliation and work for the common good”,
Archbishop Musarò added. Pope Benedict will first visit Mexico March 23-25 and then
fly to Cuba on Mar. 26 and return to Rome on March 28.
