Pope’s condolences for Argentinian train crash victims
(February 24, 2012) Pope Benedict has expressed deep sorrow over Argentina’s deadly
train accident on Wednesday in Buenos Aires that killed 50 passengers and injured
more than 700. Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone sent a message
on the Pope’s behalf to Cardinal Jorge Maria Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires,
conveying the Pope’s solidarity and prayers to all the victims, those wounded and
all those who have been affected by the tragedy. A judge was leading an investigation
into what caused the packed commuter train to plough into the buffers at a Buenos
Aires station during Wednesday's morning rush hour, crumpling cars around.
