(February 17, 2012) The Council of Cardinals studying the organizational and economic
problems of the Holy See ended a two-day meeting in the Vatican on Thursday concerning
the budget forecast for the Holy See and Vatican City for the year 2012. Vatican
Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone chaired the meeting with 11 Cardinals
from around the world and high-ranking officials from the Prefecture for the Economic
Affairs of the Holy See, the Vatican Governorate, the Administration for the Patrimony
of the Apostolic See and Vatican Radio. While voicing satisfaction over the budget
forecast the participants also expressed concern over the overall global financial
crisis which also impacts the Vatican’s economic situation, which to a great extent
is support by donations by faithful worldwide. While thanking the faithful for their
support to the Holy Father’s universal ministry, the council also appealed to them
to continue their good work.
