'Vatileaks' Discredits Serious Commitment: Father Lombardi
February 14, 2012: The U.S. administration has had wikileaks, the Vatican now has
its leak of documents that tend to create confusion and bewilderment. They show the
Vatican in a bad light, said Jesuit father Federico Lombardi, spokesperson of the
Pope and the Director General of Vatican Radio. He advised the media to keep calm
and follow reason. When serious legal and regulatory issues are discussed it is normal
that there are different opinions. He was referring to the many leaked information
of Vatican in recent times. He said that they are unfairly passed documents from the
inside out to create confusion. And the responsibility rests on both sides – those
who provides such documents, and those who use them for purposes that are certainly
not the pure love of truth. We must, therefore, not allow ourselves swallowed by
the whirlpool of confusion. He also said that the attacks on the Church on the
issue of sexual abuse is rightly paid a serious commitment to farsighted renewals
leading to develop a strong strategy of healing, renewal and prevention for the good
of society. Father Lombardi said that there is an ongoing and serious commitment
to ensure true transparency of the functioning of the Vatican institutions from the
economic point of view. We have published new rules. We are open channels for the
control of international relations. Now, a number of documents recently released tend
to discredit this commitment. Those who think that the Pope and his collaborators
in this effort are wrong are simply deluded, he said. As to the question of the
alleged power struggles ahead of the next conclave, he said that the Popes elected
in this century have all been of the highest character and undisputed spiritual value.
It 'clear that the Cardinals have tried and are trying to elect someone who deserves
the respect of the people of God and to serve the humanity of our time with great
moral and spiritual authority.
