Indian Nuns draw police official to Catholicism

February 07, 2012: A senior Indian woman police official has said that she became a Catholic impressed by the good work the Church was doing. Aruna Bahaguna, Additional Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh Special Police, said she was "taken up" when she saw priests and nuns selflessly serving the sick and HIV patients and educating the poor in the remotest villages.
She said “being a Christian has taught me that I should do things differently, as Christ would do. “When I see a criminal, my heart goes out to him. What brought him to this state of life, I ponder? No person is a born criminal, it’s more often than not circumstances that turn a person into an offender, she said.
"My biggest satisfaction is when I am able to reform a criminal,” Bahaguna told students of journalism, who included a sister provincial, priests, nuns and lay people at Amruthavani Institute of Mass Communication at a function in Hyderabad on 3rd February.
“God laid down the Ten Commandments and any law boils down to them. All laws have their roots in the commandments.” Noting that media plays an important role in society, the police official said it is important the media projects what people think about the society and the government.
