Papal appointments


(December 10.2011) 69-year old Sri Lankan Bishop Joseph Vianney FERNANDO, has been appointed as one of the 8 new members of Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture. Eleven other new Councillors have also been named. Bishop Vianney, born in 1942, ordained priest in 1966 and consecrated Bishop of Kandy in 1983. He has been member of other Vatican Pontifical dicasteries already. Another Sri Lankan, Mgr Edward Robinson Wijesinghe of the clergy of the Colombo Archdiocese of Sri Lanka, currently an official of the Vatican Pontifical Council for the Pastoral care of Migrants and Itinerant People, has been made a head of office in the same dicastery.
