Christians and Muslims call for equal rights for the disabled in Pakistan
(Dec. 07, 2011) In Pakistan, Christians and Muslims on Saturday, Dec. 3 celebrated
International Day for People with Disabilities on the theme “Together for a better
world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development”. Several initiatives
were held across the country to increase awareness about the issues that revolve around
disability and to emphasize the value of human dignity. Numerous people attended
the exhibitions, seminars, conferences and marches . The aim of the campaign, which
united people of different faiths was to raise awareness of the potential of disabled
people, who can play an active role alongside the able bodied, although there are
still obstacles and resistance to their full social integration.
