Pope appoints new coadjutor archbishop for Mandalay
(Nov. 30, 2011) Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday appointed a coadjutor Archbishop
to Mandalay Archdiocese in Myanmar, former Burma. Bishop Nicholas Mang Thang of Hakha
is the new Coadjutor Archbishop of Mandalay Archdiocese. At the same time, he will
be the Apostolic Adminstrator of his former Diocese of Hakha. The 68-year-old bishop
was ordained priest in 1973, appointed auxiliary bishop of Mandalay in 1988 and
appointed bishop of Hakha in 1992. Unlike an auxiliary bishop, a coadjutor bishop
has the right to succession on the retirement, stepping down, or death of the current
bishop.
