The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO on Wednesday presented the results of
a new study of the world’s forest resources conducted using satellite imagery. This
technology provides updated information on the extent and rate of global forest losses.
The figures are based on the most comprehensive use yet of high-resolution
satellite data to provide a sample of forests worldwide.
“It is a milestone
because we have never had global information about the forest area that was conducted
with a single methodology”, says Assistant Director General and Head of Forestry at
FAO, Eduardo Rojas-Briales.
He also told Lydia O’Kane that it is the first
time that there has been an independent source that ratifies impressive forest area
recovery in Asia. Listen
