Interfaith Dialogue for Peace and Harmony


(November 26, 2011) The November 24th Interactive Seminar on Interfaith Dialogue for Peace and Harmony organised by K. J. Somaiya Bharatiya at Sanskriti Peetham Bombay was attended by Cardinal Paul Poupard, former President, Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. Mr. V. Ranganathan, spelt out how the Hindu - Christian Dialogue as a longstanding tradition at K. J. Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham, committed to the promotion and propagation of Indian Culture and Sanskrit. It has more than 2700 students in various arts, sciences, management, engineering, medicine, humanities, philosophies and social science streams. Prof. Ganesh Rao, Honorary Professor, K. J. , spoke on Meditation from a Hindu Perspective with special reference to Patanjala Yogasutra. Cardinal Paul Poupard stressed the importance of meditation in Christian prayer. Jesus Christ is the centre of Christian meditation, he affirmed. He lauded the efforts of the Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham for its efforts to promote dialogue and build harmonious relationship among people of different faiths. Archbishop Felix Machado, Bishop-in-charge of CBCI Office for Dialogue, exhorted all present to seize every opportunity to promote dialogue. Dialogue, he said, has become indispensable for peace and harmony. Through it we are helping each other to focus on the essentials of our religions, and meditation is a form of prayer.

AofC Cardinal of Sri Lanka declares the Year of the Word of God

At Vespers celebration on Saturday eve of the first Sunday of Advent, and beginning of the Liturgical year, at St. Lucia's Cathedra, Kotahena, Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, of Sri Lanka, declared the YEAR OF THE WORD OF GOD in the Archdiocese of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The theme was “Toward a renewal of faith through the Word of God. All priests serving in Colombo City and the Religious to participated in the Solemn Vespers and the Benediction.. In his circular on the event, the cardinal spoke of the golden opportunity to become familiar with the Word of God in preparation for the Year of Faith declared by Pope Benedict XVI from 11th October 2012 to 24 November 2013.
