Blessed John Paul II taught with his Words and Deeds: Pontifical Council for Health
Pastoral Care
November 22, 2011: The 26th International Conference of the Pontifical
Council for Health Pastoral Care, will be held in Vatican from 24-26 November. The
Conference is entitled "The pastoral care at the service of life in the light of the
teaching of Blessed John Paul II" said President of the Pontifical Council for Health
Pastoral Care, Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski at a press conference on Tuesday. The Conference
is sponsored and organized by the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers and will
be attended by over 650 delegates from all continents. Recalling the beginning
of the Council the Archbishop said that Blessed Pope John Paul II established the
Commission for Health Care Workers in 1985. Three years later he raised it into the
Pontifical Council. The same Pope in 1992, decided that the World Day of the Sick
will be celebrated on 11 February, and a few months before his death in September
2004, he established the Foundation called "Good Samaritan". Recalling the words
of Pope Benedict XVI about his predecessor, the archbishop said that Blessed John
Paul II gave great teaching with his words and his works, especially a lesson great
from his chair of suffering and silence. He offered himself totally to God for the
world. A world full of hate and violence he taught anew love and suffering in the
service of others. Included in the conference program are reports, testimonies
and experiences of a theological-pastoral inspired teaching of the Blessed John Paul
II on the value of Christian suffering and the Gospel of Life.
