The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Cotonou, Benin is an imposing structure situated in
the residential quarter of the city. Later on Friday Pope Benedict will travel to
the seat of this Archdiocese and pay homage to two of the predecessors of the current
Archbishop Antoine Ganyé. “We are waiting with eagerness, if I can explain it like
that… that new life, that the Pope is bringing new life to us and this can make a
new Africa in a new world,” says Constance Tokoduo Lokoun, a English teacher, and
a Lay member of Notre Dame Cathedral. She also told our correspondent in Benin Father
Moses Hamungole, it is important to share what her country will receive from the Pope
with the other nations of Africa because, she adds, Africa but be united not divided.
On Thursday night worshippers held a candlelit vigil outside the Cathedral in
honour of Pope Benedict's visit. Listen
