Ray of hope as child is pulled from Turkey earthquake rubble
The death toll from an earthquake which hit eastern Turkey has risen to 570, with
over 2,500 people injured. But one survivor did emerge from the rubble five days after
the quake struck.
Amidst the devastation brought by an earthquake in Eastern
Turkey, there was a ray of hope on Friday when a 13 year old by was pulled alive out
of the rubble of an apartment block. What was all the more incredible was that
his rescue came five days after the quake struck.
The story has been a heartening
one for people in Turkey who watched the child on television being taken by stretcher
to a waiting ambulance in the town of Ercis badly hit by the earthquake.
But
despite the euphoria of this rescue the death toll continues to rise and aid agencies
are concerned that bad weather is continuing to hamper aid efforts.
