Search continues for survivors following Turkey quake
Rescue workers dug deeper into collapsed buildings Tuesday in a race against time
to find survivors from an earthquake in southeast Turkey. The quake killed hundreds
and made tens of thousands homeless.
Casualties were concentrated so far in
Ercis and the provincial capital Van, with officials checking outlying areas.
Malteser
International, the relief service of the Order of Malta is working with local partners
to help those affected by the disaster.
“We have got a list from our partner
and what they say for the moment, the first thing they need is besides food, drugs,
water… essential for the time being to enable the people who have lost their homes
is to stand the cold”, says Secretary General Ingo Radtke.
Malteser International
is providing 50 thousand euro for those hit by the earthquake and its’ relief efforts
will be focused on Ercis town and three nearby villages. Listen
