(October 13, 2011) Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Bombay and President of the Catholic
Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), released a human rights resource kit consisting
of a book and DVD on Wednesday at CBCI Centre, New Delhi. This kit was produced by
the CBCI Office for Justice Peace and Development, India. The Cardinal presented
the first copy of the kit to Archbishop Albert D’ Souza, Archbishop of Agra and Secretary
General of the CBCI. Introducing the Human Rights Resource Kit, Fr Charles Irudayam,
Secretary, Office for Justice Peace and Development, said the resource kit contains
a number of resources and presentations on rights based approach and advocacy including
international as well as domestic human rights instruments. Bishop Yvon Ambroise
of Tuticorin, South India and Bishop-in Charge of the Office for Justice Peace and
Development said human rights education would kindle in the people a quest for justice
and true peace. He said promotion of human rights is within the mandate of the Office
for Justice, Peace and Development and hoped that the resource kit would be useful
to all who are genuinely interested in fostering a human rights culture in the country.
