(October 8, 2011) In the Philippines, the Commission of Jaro Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate
has organized a fund-raising musical project titled Gleeglorious, to raise funds
to finance the formation of the different vicariate youth Ministers in the 14 Vicariates
of Jaro Archdiocese. Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo has given his full support and
blessing for this undertaking. In his opening remarks at the musical’s première,
the Archbishop recalled the unique definition that the 3rd Diocesan Synod
of Jaro had given to the youth ministry, calling it a “nurturing presence”. Explaining
his point further, Archbishop Lagdameo stressed the need of personal presence, of
concrete persons to carry those nurturing qualities and not just provisions, modules
or facilities, rather, it called for warm-blooded Ministers that young people can
open up to, and seek advice from – persons they can journey with, in discovering
more deeply life and God. He pointed out that there are 93 parishes in Jaro, but the
Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate had only four full-time staff and a few volunteers;
thus it has a very thin presence in the Archdiocese. The Prelate appealed for all-out
support to fund the formation programme of full-time youth ministers so that the youth
apostolate will have a fuller presence in the Archdiocese in the coming years. Glee-glorious
is an adaptation of the popular youth-oriented TV musical Glee with a glorious twist.
Gleeglorious held its première on September 16th 2011. The play is scheduled
to run until December 3rd, 2011, every Saturday, with three shows each
time, at the Colegio de San Jose (CSJ) auditorium, Iloilo City, Philippines. A Grand
Finale will take place on December 8th 2011, the Solemnity of the Immaculate
Conception, coinciding with culminating activity of the Year of the Youth.
