Two top detectives from London’s Metropolitan Police Force have been here in Rome
this week talking with Vatican officials about building new partnerships to tackle
the global phenomenon of human trafficking. Chief Superintendent Richard Martin and
Inspector Kevin Hyland met on Tuesday with the heads of the Pontifical Councils for
Justice and Peace and Migration, accompanied by experts from the Catholic Bishops
Conference of England and Wales. Their new police unit on trafficking has already
been working closely with Church groups in London to develop programmes for victim
support and prevention, both in the UK and in countries of origin of the majority
of trafficking victims. Martin and Hyland talked to Philippa Hitchen about this
