The heads of 33 bishops conferences from across Europe are attending a meeting in
Tirana centred on the theme of new evangelisation on the old continent. Participants
at the plenary assembly of the Council of European Bishops Conferences, or CCEE, met
on Friday with the president of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of New Evangelisation,
Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella, and with the Albanian President Dr Bamir Topi who
received the Church leaders at his presidential palace. Amongst those attending
the four day meeting is the president of the bishops conference in England and Wales,
Archbishop Vincent Nichols, who told Philippa Hitchen about the importance of this
encounter in the former communist country....
