Britain's ambassador to Holy See shares vision for building value-based society
"There is a huge role in education, in the work of social cohesion, that the Catholic,
Anglican and other Churches can play" in rebuilding British society. That's according
to Britain's new ambassador to the Holy See, Nigel Baker, who presented his credentials
to Pope Benedict on Friday.
Discussing the Pope's comments on the need for
"enduring values" and a renewed Christian vision, the ambassador told Philippa Hitchen
"the question of values is clearly one of the key elements in the difficulties we
faced over the summer". As well as discussing the reasons behind the riots that hit
British cities, he also talked about his government's commitment to a 0.7% target
in its development aid budget and his desire to work more closely with the Holy See
on shared concerns of climate change and disarmament......
