New Appointments in Vatican State
(September 03.09.2011) The Holy Father has accepted Saturday the resignation of Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, as President of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican State and Governor of Vatican City, He has nominated as his successor Archbishop Giuseppe Bertello, current apostolic nuncio in Italy and in the San Marino Republic, who will take over on the 1st October next. Till such time the Pope has asked Cardinal Lajolo to remain in charge. Further the Pontiff has named Msgr Giuseppe Sciacca of the Roman Rota as general secretary of the Governing board of Vatican State, raising him to Episcopal rank.
