Pope’s condolences on the occasion of terroristic attack
(August 27,2011) Pope Benedict XVI expressed his sincere sympathy to the Nigerian
President Goodluck Jonathan as also to the United Nations Secretary General, Ban
Ki-Moon, while expressing his consternation and grief at the terrorist attack that
cost so many lives in Nigeria. At least 18 people were killed by a deadly attack on
the UN headquarters in ABUJA. A car bomb ripped through the United Nations' building
in the Nigerian capital on Friday; a rare attack on an international institution
in a country wracked by local conflicts. The papal telegrams were signed by the Vatican
Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. The Pope appealed to those who have
chosen death and violence to embrace the path of life and dialogue, assuring them
of his fervent prayers.
