Bishop Bertin: aid workers at risk in Horn of Africa

In the Horn of Africa, Drought and violence have combined to produce a famine that threatens the lives of as many as three million people. International and non-governmental aid agencies are working on shoestring budgets to reach the hundreds of thousands of people in most dire need – often facing grave danger in the process. UN agencies have received less than half the $2.5 Billion they say they need to respond effectively. The apostolic Administrator of Mogadishu, bishop Giorgio Bertin told Chris Altieri the lack of security in the region is aggravating the already crushing severity of the crisis.
