Turkey has demanded Syria's leaders stop the killing of civilians after the Turkish
foreign minister on Thursday met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for 6 hours
of talks.
Turkey has backed President Assad in the past, and is encouraging
him to make urgent reforms. The foreign minister said the regime must respect the
will of the people.
Despite the growing international pressure, President Assad
said on Tuesday his forces would continue to pursue what he called “terrorist groups.”
Syrian tanks pressed on with an armoured offensive in the eastern city of Deir
al-Zor, and military units also raided villages around the besieged city of Hama.
