As World Youth Day gets underway in Madrid, Spain, the city is pulling out all the
stops to welcome over a million young visitors, plus Pope Benedict who arrives there
on August 18th. Among the pilgrims attending this great celebration
of the faith is Franciscan friar, Br Tim Lamb who is vocations director for St John
the Baptist province in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the week long gathering, he’ll be
meeting and speaking with many young people of different nationalities, sharing something
of the spirituality of St Francis and hoping to interest some of them in joining a
branch of the Franciscan family. In preparation for the Youth Day celebrations, he
and a couple of his confreres have walked part of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela,
starting on the northern Spanish coast and completing 110 km before heading on to
Madrid in time for Tuesday's inaugural Mass. Emer McCarthy caught up with Br Tim just
before he left the US and talked to him about the challenges ahead..
