Catholic Council of India (CCI) General Body to Meet in Kochi
(August 04, 2011) The 11th General Body Meeting of the Catholic Council of India
(CCI) is scheduled to be held from November 24-27, 2011 at Renewal Centre, Kochi.
CCI is the official representative body of the Church in India, established by the
Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI). The CCI members come together pooling
their experiences, reflections and suggestions on vital issues concerning the Church
and the country, so that all in the Church may engage themselves in common action
to carry out Christ’s mission ever more relevantly in India. The theme of the meeting
is: “Church’s Role for a Better India.” The biennial Meeting is held before the CBCI
General Body Meeting, which has also the same theme for reflection. The church’s contribution
to the Indian society in the past, the church’s witnessing in the present age to Christ
and his gospel and church’s role in bringing about a better India etc. will be the
focal points of reflection and discussion. The CBCI and CCI President Cardinal Oswald
Gracias, the Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church, Mar George Alenchery, the Major
Archbishop of Syro Malankara Church, Baselios Mar Cleemis, ministers and other dignitaries
will participate in the function. The representatives of bishops, priests, religious
and lay-faithful from the 164 dioceses in India will take active part in the deliberations.
