(August 01, 2011) A delegation of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI)
met Vice-President Mohammad Ansari on Friday, at his residence in New Delhi, to apprise
him about the organisation and its activities. The Vice -President encouraged the
Churches to continue to address the problems in the society. He said that special
focus must be given to children and young people for their formation and inculcating
the values of secularism. The delegates also presented a memorandum to the Vice-President
regarding the demand of Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims for Scheduled Caste status
and rights. They also urged him to recommend to the Government to resolve the problems
of Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims. The delegation also invited Ansari invited
for the NCCI’s Quadrennial Assembly which will be held during April 25-29, 2012 in
Bangalore.
